Ok i know just about everybody has seen these things on TV or in a store. Im talking about those neon orange super absorbent SHAMWOW towels ( with a slightly irritating commercial god i hate that guy with the spiked hair ) Anyhow im not shure what the volume of water one of these things could hold BUT HERES MY QUESTION if the product absorbes as much liquid as they show on tv would it be possible to drain an average sized swimming pool with a large quantity of these things ???????? yeah i know it sounds crazy but thats me anybody have any ideas about this one

I'm guessing that these are a finely structured foam that has excellent capillary action. If the action is better than that of carpets, the Shamwow will do a better job than carpets of "sucking up" spilled fluids.
Guessing again that a Shamwow of some particular size weighs 1/4 ounce, and absorbs 12x its own weight, that would be 3 ounces. On that ratio, it would take about 45 Shamwows (of that size) to absorb a gallon. Gallons x 45 might be a large number, but it ought to work.

Well the obvious answer is YES, given enough time -- but that invokes two follow-up questions: Where are you going to put the water sucked up by the Shamwows; and Wouldn't it just be quicker, cheaper and less work to get a pump and pump it out?
Your question also makes me wonder: What is the relationship (if any) between the dry volume of a sponge-type object, and the volume of liquid it can absorb? I've seen those dry, compressed sponges used for soldering stations that probably quadruple in volume one they are wetted; does the Shamwow do the same thing?

Lets see - olympic sized pool = 660000 gallons x 8.3 pounds/gallon.... how are you going to move a 2750 ton sopping mass of Shamwows should be the question. One at a time would be a bit tedious.

I have around a dozen of these towels. My wife bought them a few years back from our Walmart store, not via the TV.
These do indeed work well and absorb a lot of water, or any other fluid I'm sure. I don't know how much, but is quite a bit!
I use them in the kitchen, the bathrooms, in my workshop, and in my garage. Generally, using them sure beats using paper towels. You can also wash them in the washing machine. Use the gentle cycle and just don't put them in the cloths dryer!
I even use them cleaning the interior of the cars.....and yes, using them as a car shammy (sp?) to remove the rinse water off the cars after washing them. Works great!
If you buy enough of them certainly will suck up the pool water, but then again I wouldn't want to foot that bill! LOL
