Hi BinnyGunjan,

Nothing is perfect. You need to specify the size of the material and of the ring but most of all you need to specify the tolerance of the ring diameter.

Best regards,

John

Pipe, cut a slice off the end= ring.

Rod, cut a slice off the end and drill a hole of the proper size through it= ring.

Brings up an interesting question. How short does a pipe have to be to be considered a ring, then how flat does a ring have to be to be considered a washer?

Foil, shim, washer, spacer, bushing, sleeve, pup, short pipe, long pipe, pipeline.

I'm thinking the person asking the question is asking how to bend a pipe or rod into a circle. If so, it depends on the diameter required and the size of the pipe or rod. There are machines that will roll pipe or rod into a near perfect circle. It probably isn't possible to do it by hand.

Try a ring roller (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hw4upaGLRKs)

or a tubing bender (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkBgqv646KQ)

Thin-wall tubing may require a mandrel tubing bender to prevent kinks, or collapsing of the tube.

I've had to make sets (>10 pieces) of rings from 1/4" and smaller pipe and rod. The method I used was to wind the material around a mandrel many times to form a tight spiral coil. The mandrel was sized slightly smaller than the required ring because the material would relax when the mandrel was removed. I then cut the coil along one side to produce a uniform set of slightly offset rings. I aligned the free ends and welded or soldered them to form "nearly" perfect rings. Hope that helps.
