Rob Roy System

05/17/2011 10:33 AM

I came across the following spec:

Unless otherwise specified, electrical installations in
wash down areas will exclusively use the "Rob Roy
System". Details of this system are specified by the
manufacturer.

What does this refer to? Is it equipment related, procedural?

A Google search yielded little in the way of enlightment.

I dont know why this would be voted ot?

it is a perfectly valid the best approach to solving miscommunications in the workplace... ask questions.. starting at the source of the... whatever the problem is.

In fact.. I would point out that had you done what PW suggested, you probably wouldn't have had to come here and ask. Again.. a question has been asked, and would have been more direct to ask the author.

I vote GA.

Chris

Totally agree. But we didn´t know it was plain old PVC coated galvanized conduit not a guy that I was asking about in the first place, did we?

The spec refers to Robroy PVC Coated Heavy Wall Conduit and fittings.

I just Googled "Robroy Conduit" and got about 45,500 results.

Most larger electrical supply houses can get you information on Robroy products also.

If you are bidding a project that requires Robroy conduit, be sure to include the cost for Robroy bender(s). You can not use normal RGS benders with Robroy conduit as they damage the PVC coating.

Rob Roy conduit is PVC coated and designed for use in washdown areas.

Here's one reference, but the company web site seems cumbersom. I've been out of the wash down equipment business for years.

Ahhh¡ So it´s about pvc pipe and fittings. And it´s robroy system and not Rob Roy as in the Leam Neeson movie.

Thank you very much all.

No-No-NO-NOT PVC PIPE - the conduit is standard galvanized rigid with a PVC coating. Loads of fun to work with - the PVC scratches fairly easily. Chuck this stuff up in your standard pipe vise and see what it looks like when it comes out. If your lucky, it will not be entirely removed where the jaws grabbed it. Then you have to be sure female fittings have a big PVC collar on them so the exposed threads are still covered. (I mistakenly cut these back the first time I used this stuff - the customer became a bit irate when he saw that)

Thanks, Phys. I completely get it now. Glad to get real data from real hands-on guys. I don´t plan to use the stuff, just checking the language for a bid package.

My preferred "Rob Roy System" is a touch of sweet vermouth with a good Scotch Whisky.
