Looking for BNC Connectors

05/17/2011 4:13 PM

Hi everyone! Long time reader first time poster.

I've been searching for days now for a website where I can buy female BNC connectors.

I'm using them for air flow redirection. I know it's not the most ideal connector but I've bought a couple couplers and crimp connectors from my local radioshack and with the center portion drilled out it allows plenty of air to flow and holds the seal well enough for what I want to do.

My hope is to press these female connectors in to a machined and anodized piece of aluminum. A press fit would work but finding BNC connectors with that tight of an outside tolerance is going to be understandably difficult so I've also left room for a bulkhead fit or some sort of gasket and nut to go on the back.

If the connectors can be the crimp type where the center pin and plastic sleeve are not already inserted to the connector that would be ideal as I plan on just throwing these away. I'm also hoping to keep my order minimum as low as possible with 200 being the largest number I could possibly buy at this point. Lead times and shipping is flexible.

Does anyone out there in the CR4 community know where I could find some of these or something similar that might work.

Thanks :)

Thanks Doorman. This was a pretty easy one.

I have spent hours there trying to find other types of connectors. There is absolutely no universal convention for type identification.

That's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, somehow I wasn't finding these when I was looking through Digi-Key myself. They've even got the price breaks about exactly where I wanted them.

Thanks :)

Would this be a good example of, "re-purposing"?

Do you care to share what you are doing?

Re: Looking for BNC Connectors

I'm a student right now doing mechanical engineering and while I've had an internships at an engineering firm for three years now, everyone else is doing their MECOP Internship interviews. So I decided to look in to doing something on my own.

I've been interested in making my own Hookah for a while now because the ones that they have for sale around here are just low quality and don't last more than a couple months. I was going to use these connectors for the connections between the hose and the hookah base because their fairly sturdy, easy to connect and disconnect, and also make a decent seal... Well decent enough for my use.

My criteria for the connectors is pretty simple: good seal, doesn't wiggle lose over time so something like a quick disconnect for pneumatic hose, replaceable, has to go with the look of the overall hookah, and has to easily integrate in to a hose or some sort of tubing.

I have been looking at pneumatic couplings as they fit all my criteria and have a much better seal then these but they tend to be a bit more expensive. although easier to attach to some sort of hose. I'm weighing my options at this point but all input is appreciated.

Sorry Mikerho, but I'm not familiar with that last name. I've gotten around and talked to people in the local engineering and manufacturing industry here, but other than that I tend to be slightly introvert :P

I say Hookah, you assume bong and tell me to leave? It's for Sheesha which is a flavored tobacco and molasses mix, sold in stored everywhere.

What the hell did you say? Geez! I have a hard time believing it was abuse or attack in this instance.

Hey when you get yours made I'd like to see the final results.

I have often thought about making one myself. I have some really neat/strange bottles in my collection that I thought about turning into hookas but never got past the thinking about it stage.

And to Lyn not everybody uses these things to smoke illegal substances. I've been smoking thru these things since I was a teen and I'm in my late 40s now. If you smoke you should try one. They are quite pleasant.

Hi pakratt1991,

Glad to be of help. When it comes to searching for connectors on DigiKey, it's a learned skill. Hey, do you know any Hogan's from around there? I've got cousins there.

Push-to-connect/disconnect air tubing fittings shouldn't be too expensive.

Lots of good answers/suggestions.

For what it's worth, when I'm searching for this stuff I have two main bookmarks; Digikey and MCM Electronics. If one doesn't have it the other usually does. If one doesn't have it on sale, the other may.

MCM electronics - no endorsement, just a satisfied customer.

On a whim I searched for Hookahs-R-Us.

There truly is such an internet site with that name, and Hookah parts is their game.

The internet is certainly a strange place.

Try "Mouser.com". Look for "Interconnects", "RF connectors", "Amphenol/Connex" for manufacturer,... You might also try Norvac Electronics. I KNOW they have stores in Beaverton and Salem, and they might have a store in Eugene. ph (503) 644-1025

You realize... BNC connectors are electrical, not pneumatic.
