Drinking Water Quality

11/23/2011 2:13 AM

hi guys,

i need to know the standards level of drinking water. i received test report about our drinking water, i couldn't understand. please help. is this good to drink

Turbidity 0.56

pH 8.81

conductivity (us/cm) 117.3

total hardness (ppm) 27.0

i have a brief idea about the process, i will say as i know!!

this water is produed by sea water. 1 st it goes to RO-1 (desalination) plant then to RO-2 plant. then it goes various process to make drinking water (lime stone, ion exchange, etc)

In vino veritas; in cervisia carmen; in aqua E. coli (and maybe other nasty stuff). Just stick to the basics!

(There will be some redundancy shortly. Sorry.)

Buy a bottle of any brand of the popular bottled water products and compare your figures against that.

Which is better--turbid or turgid?

The water is too pure to be used as drinking water. It will taste unpleasant. To achieve palatability, the calcium ion level ideally needs to be >60ppm, which will not be achieved given such a low conductivity (assumed 20degC).

Consider the use of a re-hardening filter downstream of the existing processes, and consider taking the drinking water precursor stream from the stage 1 permeate and not the stage 2.

There is a World Health Organisation quality recommendation for potable water. Any internet search engine will find same.

This article proposing standards for desalinated drinking water might be of interest.
