Attach one end of it to ground (earth).

I suspect more context is needed for this question.

Nah, we'll just get a wide variety of WAG, as we normally do. We'll probably collect a few that will deliberately misapply the tiny amount of information we do have. (Just use a pneumatic circular grinder. The burrs on the conductors will be ground off easily.) Then somebody will make a timely joke on a reply and the fun will begin.

I almost forgot, somebody will cite along the way some Engineering reference that the OP should already have to be doing their work. This may or may not generate a brief firestorm of safety concerns. As usual safety issues will lead to complaints of the "nanny state". A pedantic flurry will ensue until this vacuous thread dies.

Using the correctly-sized cable lug, correctly-fitted onto a correctly-sized terminal. If in doubt, consult a qualified Electrician locally.

It seems to be:

SHIELD [if it is a shielded cable] should be grounded at one end to avoid circulating current..

Oh! How naive you are!

When anyone talks about (intentional) grounding of a cable, it generally is understood that the cable's shield or armour is grounded intentionally, for reasons of safety, et al. It could be at one end or both ends, each method having their own merits & demerits. But, this applies to "armoured cables" only.

And, your bold lettered quote is wrong. It should read" "Since single core cable's SHIELD OR ARMOUR should be grounded at one end....."

So, unarmoured cables need not be grounded.

One exception could be that if the single core unarmoured cable itself is used as a grounding conductor or protective conductor, in which case, obviously the conductor core of the cable should be grounded at BOTH ENDS.

Sorry electricalexpert65."But, this applies to "armored cables" only." Medium Voltage cable-from 5 kV-is always shielded and- usually- non-armored.

In your country you call it shield; here, in India, we call it Aromour.

So how do you know that the nomenclature of your country applies here?

Yet another WAG here.

Shielding is to prevent interference, Armour is physical protection...

All that aside, the OP Specifically says that the Cable is un-armoured Single core and does not mention a shield...

So the Cable is either earthed at both ends (DB & Earth Conductor) as it is a Protective Earthing Cable or the original question is a "Nothing" question.

Sapper
