Grouping Steam Traps

08/13/2013 7:41 AM

Dea Sir,

Can we connect Thermodynamic trap (installed on main line) outlet to condensate header with float type trap outlet (installed to heat exchanging equipment).

Regards

Yes, provided the interconnecting line runs freely and does not back-up. Do not lift condensate; pump it away.

Yes

But there are several other items you may be needed to install with them. Strainers, Possibly isolation valves, unions, maybe check valves, etc.

Find out from a local engineer/consultant who knows. There are many elements of your question that have to be answered at the local level.

Good Luck, Old Salt

Good question, yes and no.

The trap on the heat exchanger should be free flowing, ie downhill from the trap to the condensate return tank/feed water tank, you can connect other condensates into the return providing there is no pressure building.

If the condensate is lifted above the trap you will get stall in the heat exchanger. In this case a condensate pump will be required to lift the condensate up to the return header.

Check out Spirax, Armstrong TLV for explaination of stall.

Dear Mr. balchandra,

The answer is yes, if it is in the DOWN STREME of the DISCHARGED CONDENSATE, with out any Restriction.

We have connected to a tubular heat exchanger, to recover the HEAT and condensate is is taken back to Feed Water Tank.
