Tell me was exactlly a mechanical engineer does in a cement industry and what knowladge he or she must have in order to get placed in a cement industry. What questions can be asked to a mechanical engineer fresher if he goes for off campus placement. Thanks regards sparsh gupta

Contact some employment agencies, or go on-line and look at the dozens of on-line sites, and all your questions will be answered.

  • Contact someone in that industry who has that particular background, and have a chat with that individual.
  • Ring the company's HR individual/team. They may well send a few Job Description documents in response.

I fear you have not learned much in college.

Job And Work Of A Mechanical Engineer

A good engineer will recognize the problem and develop a plan of execution to solve the problem.

You specify the switches to turn the lights on.

lyn-

And also to turn the lights off. Energy conservation you know! Just think of how many megawatts can be saved with this practice, not to speak of the reduction in depletion of the Ozone layer among other virtuous things.

Good Luck, Old Salt

Mechanical engineering is one of the versatile branches of engineering. As a Mechanical engineer you have many roles in cement industries such as maintenance, production, quality control, design, logistics etc. It is your interest to choose the right department to move forward in your professional carrier. Best Wishes.

As mech. engr you will have placement in maintenance dept. of cement plant. You can be questioned about basic process of cement making, about klin, gear boxes, drives, batching plants, bagging plant. Mostly maintenance of these equipment including preventive maintenance, lubrication of bearings etc. It will be worth while experience for fresh Engineer but in dusty atmosphere of cement. So just prepare yourself with basic maintenance of the machines.

Mechanical Engineer is a key man in management and technology of cement production plant. Most of the machinery required by a Cement Producing Plant are huge and heavy-duty type. These machinery must be kept in a good order to keep production rolling and the Mechanical Engineer is the responsible entity for this. If some reason machinery fails and the plant. stop working, it would cost thousands of dollars per day. I have listed very few machinery required in the Cement Production Plant - loaders, crushers, bucket elevator, grinding mill, roller mill, pumps, dump trucks, clincker grinder, dust collectors, compressed air system, etc. etc. Hope this helps you to see the importance of Mechanical Engineer in the Cement Plant.

Thanks also NK & SEagle & SS and others helpful !

then I can't miss saying with much of your expressing "to do's" and such in a cement factory, there is probably a lot of heat recovery to engineer for efficient use of any waste heat to be recaptured by a good engineer's design:

fresh air coming in to spaces in a factory in a cold climate, where those spaces are not in direct contact with production heat- then some "piped-in" production heat may pre-heat (just an idea others have done for years) - heat used to pre-heat incoming ventilation air , reducing heating costs in the engineering dept, warehouse, offices, or water required to be heated-

IF some process requires COOLING

then maybe the plant engineer - at a factory you're thinking of, would make use of the GROUND around the building if a COMMON loop of plastic pipes and as a heat-exchanger to the Earth, for desorption/ rejected heat, helped reduce the costs of refrigeration chillers, or cooling towers, techs needed, maintenance, etc. IF ENGINEERED concerning all ground conductivity (or like - and DOES- a 1 acre pond , 8 ft deep handles over 75 tons of process cooling of fluids in the 90-deg f ranges) to just save a little 85% more on related chiller utilities to (if applicable) greatly reduced tech-refrigeration-maintenance costs! "Near-Grade GeoThermal Cooling' that some confuse with some kind-a over untiy thing, while others just use the Earth for pre-heating and pre-cooling WITHOUT COMPRESSORS or refrigeration devices...

search: "Hybrid GeoThermal Source" - old but slowly growing in use, effectually.

Re: Role of a Mechanical Engineer in a Cement Industry

"...was exactlly a mechanical engineer does in a cement industry..."

[What's, what is] [exactly]

although while in Engineering school in the 70's, they still then , as now presumed I would spell well for accurate communication, and to also communicate with net question abusers...

Even if anyone COULD (hah) accurately presume more than your just wanting to somewhat hear from an experienced Cement Factory Engineer, you also may find that like a lot of engineers, all those college information studies become about 10% of your job as you may just be promoted if you are positive in attitude and work better with people in production than a good 7th grade English teacher must be like. What I mean is over the past near 40 years, some engineers still working and well , are simply holding great jobs- as they learned to not overlord and be negative as such control-'enthusiasts' do especially when they own their own companies and make some money, forgetting when they asked "What's that?" along the way... such overlords are also found where they have a chance to greedily worry about their security of keeping a job among so many today losing a position of "engineering"---

be on time , and show up every day; then always find as mentioned above some in that field who CAN share where they applied themselves, getting LESS lazy about just being "lost" as WE ALWAYS EVERY HUMAN IS ANYWAY, just moreso in to every new learning curve ALL WENT THROUGH just as you are...

find those WHO ARE NOT LAZY ABOUT READING you and grow up to just human-up enough to help you express what you really are looking for.

Again many EMPLOYED engineers became just group and production leaders in their companies, aware of developing new ideas and holding to basics in their fields, just not much applying those basics on a daily basis, but still helpful and profitable to a company. It may not be so comfortable for many years, but with an eye on what people skills excel, you may find you own your own consulting biz in 10 to 20 years after college. Learn to share some info, but also to measure things up with those - getting-them-involved-wanting-to-work-on-your-team, and finding values greater than the costs of closing a decision to finally implement something close to some original need.
