Can't answer it. The wind speed at the ground could be going at a completely different speed and direction than what the air at the storms primary level is traveling at.

Your current weather does not match your book problem.

Current conditions 22MPH with gusts to 41MPH @1deg.F/-18deg.C.

http://www.theweathernetwork.com/alerts/high-alert/canada/ontario/barrie

has your real weather, which indicates your to the south of the worst blizzard weather.

My guess is with lake effect it will take till March 14 to pass, maybe April 20.

Go to environment Canada website, first look at the satellite image to see how big the system is, then get the radar for your area. The radar animation shows how fast the system is moving over the area and whether the end of it is in sight as yet. You can count how many radar rings it crosses in the time of the animation, and calculate how long it will take for the system to pass over your location.

Surface winds are usually the result of downdrafts as two different temperature boundary layers collide. It usually has nothing to do with the speed or direction of a storm.

Upper air winds are another story. If the storm is to your west and the upper air winds are from the east, then you will be waiting until hell freezes over before the storm arrives, let alone passes.

I'd be more worried about the depth of the storm than the length of the front.

Don't go outside!

Let's hope it isn't any longer than three batteries will last in a flashlight.

We here in Fargo USA might tomorrow see above 00F for the first time in about a week and a half. Yeah, it (the cold) gets kind of troublesome sometimes, I know.

Report from New England: 60 deg with rain and fog yesterday. This morning couldn't open my car doors, frozen solid. Tonight I need to bring my brass monkeys inside.

We'll share some of that cool if you can ship it over.

Phone call from mum last week. Got down to 38C (overnight minimum) with every day exceeding 44C and one reaching 47.5C (Official weather reports from airport, not some backyard home system.)

Though I suppose the purist physicists would argue that it's up to me to ship the heat.

Really feeling for you all at the moment.

Please ALL stay safe!!

..and Holland just had, two days ago, the warmest day in February in recorded history. We're still waiting for winter. Trees are budding and blossoming. Having seen the news, we wish all you the best who are in the middle of the cold spell.

So how cold did you get up there? We got to -27 C at 670 meters in NW Pa. We missed almost all the snow - winds across the lake took it to the NE this time.

Is the storm a straight line front or a circular storm, you also need to know the depth of the storm to determine the passing of the storm. Turn on the TV and get the picture from above.

Parry Sound is getting lake effect snow. No storm front seen on the weather map. And as long as the wind comes from the west with the cold air in place you will continue to be snowed on. But relief is in site from the weather map wind directions suppose to change. Those living south of you will then get it.
