The fluid needs to be replaced.

If the fluid ran out somewhere, you need to replace the part that the fluid ran out of.

Can you send a picture?

Can you give a more detailed discription of the failure?

Well you have to go underneath it and see where the fluid came out of.

After that I would suggest replacing that part.

Well then, Haven't you answered your own question?

Replace or rebuild the pump.

You can find information on rebuilding or replacing the pump on the internet by going to the pump maker's web site.

Hi Jose,

Where on the pump did the oil come out? It could just be a loose connection on the hose or pipe between the pump outlet and the valve or ram.

Best of luck,

John

Pump doesn't run when the bed is lowered. Most dump bodies use the weight of the body to lower thru a valve which it piped to a return to the reservoir. If it raised fine and held. Then leaked while lowering most likely the hose between this valve and the tank is blown or loose as it's not under high pressure and hose clamps usually retain the hoses.

Some hydraulic dumps lower under hydraulic power with a double action cylinder (pressurized on both sides of the piston). This gives better control of the dump body and doesn't require a large reservoir. The fluid is held in the unpressurized end of the double action cylinder instead of returning to the bigger reservoir. This also makes fine adjustments in the dump position easier for things like a controlled dump into an asphalt paver.

Besides counting the hoses to the cylinder, it is usually possible to tell by the higher engine speed of the dual action being pumped to lower the dump body.

Good Luck, Old Salt

I think you should call a mechanic. Working on heavy equipment you don't understand is a good way to get seriously injured, or worse.

The biggest risk here is playing with the hydraulics with the bucket raised, and getting trapped by the bucket lowering itself during the spanner-flailing time. Beware of raised heavy objects!

From your expanation I can understand, that you can not lift up trailer just after previous lifting and lowering. Only after some time you can lift up again. Is it right ?

Check the PTO or whatever powers the hydraulic pump make sure it turns. Make sure you have the valve engaged to lift. Then;

Without lifting the dump body, loosen the pressure side hose on the Hyd. pump it will be the smaller hose of the two, run the PTO or however it is powered, vent the air from the pump until you have a steady flow of oil, refill the oil resevior tank.

If it is a double acting hydraulic cylinder (Power up - power down) "fill" the cylinder on the top side or ram (Rod) end of the cylinder, (There will be a pipe plug there) vent the pump as mentioned above.

If none of this worrks rebuild the hydraulic pump. You should be able to turn that pump by hand!!!! You should be able to lift the empty dump body at least a bit by hand.
