Is that a statement or a question?

Step 1, look for model number of motor label.

Step 2, write down manufacturer from motor label.

Step 3, contact manufacturer, tell them what you found in step one. Ask them for the capacitor value.

A farad will be enough.

From your thread it appears that you are a young boy and seems to be your first thread in this international forum . Here members are always happy to help people provided the questions are put up in proper manner. First you must know that if you want a reply for any of your doubts you must explain clearly the subject matter , other wise it will appears as if you do not even know what you want to know. So please put up a detailed question so that at least some one can understand what formula you want.

"First, you need to collect the full-load PF and efficiency information on the motor in question."

"Second, you need your motor's input rating in kW."

"Now that you have this number, you can refer to a PF correction table (Table 1). Looking at the Table, go in from the left with the existing PF, and then come down from the top with the desired PF. Where the two lines intersect, you'll find the multiplier you need. Take that multiplier and multiply the motor's input kW by it. This will give you the required kVAR of correction.

Finally, using the data in Table 2, select a capacitor, rounding down to the next lower value. You now have the correct size capacitor for your PF correction plan. For a typical installation, see Calculation Procedure Example."

Please use link for complete info.....and formulas..

Nice to see some folks are willing to read between the lines to lend a hand.

Even better to see folks understanding what is between the lines.

Your question is: what value has the capacitor to use three phase motor in single phase running? If so , for this try: http://www.volta-electricite.info/articles.php?lng=fr&pg=2000 is in French, but Google Translate helps you .

Re: Capacitor Value

There are different types of single phase i.m. with different circuits for the capacitor:

1- Capacitor for starting the motor ONLY.

2- Capacitor for starting and remains in circuit during run.

3- Some even have 2 capacitors: One remains permanent after start, and the other is only in circuit during the starting process.

To work it out, BEST to consult the manufacturer or read the nameplate, or both.

Steinmetz system:

I tried this method as an apprentice and it works well. It does use a pilot motor to create the artificial phase. Subsequent motors are started DOL and have their own capacitor.

I've seen a derivative of this system used in a joinery shop. To start the pilot motor a capacitor start SP motor was used. Once running the SP motor was disconnected and then acted as a flywheel for the pilot.

Strange system, but it works.

Dear Mr.ghodkerishikesh,

First decide the desired P.F. to be maintained and calculate the Impedence. and quantify the Impedence due to capacitance.

Then Imp. Zc = 1/2 x (3.14) x F x C ,

where Zc is the Impedence, F = frequency of the power supply and C is the Capacitance in Farads.

Read the OP, it's not about PF.
