How to Work Out Forces Acting on Landing Gear Components

03/16/2014 10:02 PM

Hi, guysI'm about to draw landing gear in simplified version in solidworks (mainly focusing on main strut, wheel and linking strut?(that holds main strut not to be rotated during compression) and my question is how could I measure the sizes for each components? I know entire length of landing gear including wheel has length of 4.5m, but dont really know about dimensions for other parts. I could just draw up random size of landing gear, but I'm worried if it cannot sustain the load of 10000N (let's say) when I test it in the ABAQUS. any help from you guys?:)

Any help here?
Simplified Landing Gear Design
Aircraft Landing Gear Shock Absorber Design
Look at some landing gear pictures and copy them.
Alter the dimensions until it works.
How long have you been working on this?

about 3 months including dynamics calculation

I know you regard me as a little brat, but I'm a student, that's why Im here to get help. done for force analysis, but need to actually design. as i'm targeting boeing 777 200er, it's kinda hard to get specific landing gear photo except just rough snapshoots

No reply,..... Really.......... There is more to engineering than just figuring out a solution.

Reverse engineering can be as difficult as Design from scratch.

Either way you do it, your still the one that has to do it. Because your a student...... and the reason is you still learn processes that cannot be taken off a blog site.

eww.. see?

F = ma.

Fparallel = Fperpendicular × CoF.

F = PA.

Fy ≈ 50,000 psi, depending on material.

Various trig.

But if you're measuring, use a tape measure and calipers.
