Triboelectricity...Useful Static Electricity Generator

04/22/2014 11:07 PM

'Static' electricity finally being put to good use...I found this video on youtube, reminds me of using it to flash NE2's, only this is low voltage using led's.

Combine this with Fredski's graphene and we have a useful product under development.

'Sorry about that'....I must have copied something wrong...so I did a search this morning, 'Georgia Tech triboelectricity' on Yahoo and a couple of other sites had the same video of Prof Wang's videos.

One of the things demonstrated was a small device (1"x 3" appx.) that when you blew through it, it lit a small array of led's on top, similar to a 'flutter' generator mentioned in a recent post.

These are practical or nearly practical devices.

Years ago here on CR4 there was a member who lived in (I believe) Nepal. Can't remember his username and don't know if he still visits CR4.

He wrote that one night there was an earthquake - a big one as I recall - and that the mountains surrounding his village flashed with light meanwhile. Triboelectricity. Wish I could find his post. I'm guessing 2007-2008 maybe?

Somewhere on the US east coast (Jersey shore, I think) there's a pebble beach whose quartz stones are triboelectric. When you bang them together in darkness you can see them flash.

Wintergreen Lifesavers are also triboelectric.

I understand you can get x-rays from a roll of plastic tape.

Thanks Fred...I still haven't figured out how to 'cut and paste', always seems to screw up...(I just selected an emoticon, pit the finger on it(it had a circle with a line thru it while dragging) and disappeared. Some conflict between W7 and CR4's editor is my guess.

when on a web page you want to link to just go to the web address bar and "right click" your mouse, when you see your choices select "copy".....then go to the response page (reply) ad go to a blank spot in that window where you want to paste what you just copied, right click your mouse again to "paste", once that web address has been transferred you can create it as a link.right click again and highlight the address that was just pasted just move your mouse to the response window toolbar, the icon you want is immediately to the left of the camera icon.(looks like a chain link)

Ok, this sounds workable, but:

When I 'right click' in the forum thread response window, I get a box that says:

UNDO - REDO - By Pass Custom Menu - Close

I did get a 'paste' to notepad, highlighted red, but no link function.

What do you think the problem might be?

I'm using the latest W7 explorer version.

Thanks again for your help.

Ah-Ha! There it is! I still haven't found the 'chain link', and this paste is purple instead of red....I suppose that means it's not linked yet. I'm going to post this and then open it and see if it links.
