A Simple question..

what kind of rare Metal does it contain these days!..Specifically those plugs that are NGK, BOSCH, Denso made..

does it still contain Nickel?or platinum?or iridium?..

reading from this Thread: http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/74113/platinum-recovery-from-spark-plugs#comment801353

I became interested in spark plug selling. though i'm not from America i just want to know..because i'm also interested in selling rare metals. i just collected some Dead spark Plugs. don't know if these Spark Plugs do contain Rare Metals.

It's like buying an expensive piece of jewelry.

If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it.

You don't know anything about spark plugs and the materials that make them up.

Why would you want to go into a business about which you know nothing?

And worse, ask total strangers how to run it?

Don't quit your day job.

Yes but - that's the American way of free enterprise - everyone has the right to try to start a business they know nothing about and fail miserably - you can't criticize him for that. Besides, what is chapter 11 bankruptcy for if not such a venture?

Hi, lure9090,

When Ford Motor Co / N K G had a plant in South Wales, one of my customers had a contract to cut the tip off all the reject plugs for recycling so I guess they do have enough rare metals to make it worthwhile.

Best of luck,

John

So maybe i should get the Central Electrode of the Spark plug...because that's where the Rare Metal is..

Well thanks for the information, if that's the Case...Hopefully that Almost all of the Rejected/Dead Spark Plug have Rare Metal that could be sold for a Good price.

Hi lure9090,

The rare metal was on the tip of both parts that the spark jumped, not just the central electrode.

Do you realise that the electrodes are made out of an alloy rather than a single pure element?

Have you performed a cost analysis to figure out how many rupees per spark plug you would get, because spark plugs are not that expensive to make and the rare metals are only a part of their cost.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spark_plug#Central_electrode

Who were you planning on selling it to?

I am Looking for Spark Plug with Rare metals(Such as Platinum Etc.)

that's why my thread is about Central Electrode of Spark Plug...for me to know if there are any chances...that a Spark plug would contain Platinum or other Rare Materials. because i saw in Nat. Geo that Diego, in the Show of "Money Meltdown", bought probably around 700pcs Spark plug and made a huge profit out of it.

so i was encouraged to do the same. How do i know if the Spark plug's do contain Rare metal..and how do i know if it contains Alloy??

This link may be of some help

http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/scrap-metals/394636-platinum-recovery-spark-plugs.html

You could also try an internet search. The basic answer seems to be that it is difficult to tell one spark plug from another unless they have some markings you can track back to a manufacturer's website.

Just how much did Diego make compared to how much time he spent? Was it even equivalent to minimum wage working at the local fast food outlet?

Gotta go where the money and enjoyment is after all.

Diego Spent 350$, and his profit was like 1200$, that's why i became interested in selling those things.

i think the Company of Bosch most likely to have their spark plug's central electrode to be Platinum.

But thanks for this information dude! :)

An army of moonlighting mohels could help you immensely. They're used to $30 per hour, plus tips. Best of luck.
