How "Guru" Was Chosen

09/04/2014 4:27 AM

If we read the Ancient and Modern History, GREEK and LATIN WERE PREDOMINANT and many Scientific Words are based on the Greek Latin language/signs.

If such be the case how "GURU" was chosen in CR4.

Do you mean how did they choose the word, or, how do get categorised as a guru.

1.) English plunders words from all other languages.

GURU is regularly used in English to mean "an expert" or "wise old practitioner".

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guru

Guru (Devanagari गुरु) is a Sanskrit term for "teacher" or "master",

2.) Unfortunately on CR4 it means nothing more than you've made lots of posts, greater than 500 I think.

Shhhh....Don't tell my wife - I told her it means CR4 thinks I'm really wise and smart.

I think maybe it should be based on a ratio of good answers to total answers - fits the term Guru a lot better. That'll kick me back to Power User real quick.

I supposed it was the exclamation produced upon backing into a cold doorknob on a dark night. Or the call of the lonesome Gnu.

They chose 'Guru' to designate those having 500 or more posts when of course they meant 'Baatooni' (बातूनी).

People who have nothing to do engage in uncalled for comments. English has borrowed many words from other languages, does not mean that English lacks that word. It is an expression of assimilating universal expressions. Guru means a practicing knowledgeable person. There is nothing wrong done by CR4 to call a person Guru posting more than 500 posts. It is in recognition of that person who selflessly offers his point of views and is a practising social guy. Please stop this discussion.

Funny! But I'm actually learning somehow by reading from these gurus...sometimes! Most of the times, I just read for fun! ( I hope I am getting one point here.)

Guru: smart-alek. Pronounced smartass in some localities.

Example: Lyn.

I have a few things to help with on occasions but mostly I just watch what goes on. Yes I am a guru... but I use this largely as a learning tool. My real specialty is VHF and UHF antennas which we have seldom needs for, but I am here when the need comes up.

It was chosen because you don't want to know the Greek word that can describe some of us "Gurus" S.M.
