Giant electrical installations

07/11/2007 5:50 AM

Just in case you feel like wandering around at random in the Russian countryside, beware of some quite scary electrical installations dating from the 70's.

The Russians have made turning terrifying-looking high-tech structures into an art form! http://en.structurae.de/photos/index.cfm?JS=36197 shows the transmitter at the top of The Brocken, in the Harz mountains in what was East Germany. Standing underneath it does make the knees clatter together.

WOW!!!

Don't read in that first link about the nuclear accidents will you....

Its not just scary but I've a family living in North Carolina and that is where the USA air force dropped 2 nuclear devices, finding one only and it had 6 failsafe mechanisms, but 5 had failed.... the other bomb is apparently still missing.....

GULP!!!

Yeah, I'd seen that, but I didn't want to scare people.....

(Igor, it's in a safe place, yes?)

I found a use for the pulse generator with the hollow spiral (made from round bars) going down.

They rolled a stone down it and inspected it at length.

Result: a rolling stone gathers no moss.
