Will These 4 Biofuels Be Bonanzas or Busts?

Posted October 09, 2009 9:47 AM

From Discover Magazine | RSS:

Companies and governments all over the world are racing to find cleaner, greener fuels to end our society's addiction to oil and cut down on the greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming. But in the rush and tumult of new developments and optimistic predictions, it's hard to separate the hype from real hope. So a recent series of articles from Nature News feels like a public service, as the articles investigate the scientific and economic state of affairs for four different kinds of biofuels.

There's one other issue with biofuels that's just started to come to light - The Fish & Game Department is finding an alarming number of hermaphroditic male bass in the waterways throughout the US... Turns out that in the biofuel production process, a large amount of plant sterols (estrogen-like compounds) are produced as a waste product, which gets dumped. Unfortunately plant sterols are just as active as real, animal estrogen.

The affected bass is just the first warning signal of a problem that may reach a much greater magnitude. So, watch your sperm counts, guys.

vermin:

Unfortunately, the majority of polutants are estrogenic. Phthalates, bisphenol A, weed-n-feed, etc, etc, etc,

And the average man's sperm count is now in the range of 30 to 40 million, as compared to 100 to 120 million before world war 2. And as compared to 20 million, which is considered impotent.

Not only that, but how many women on birth control are pissing how many tons of estrogen and progesterone into the water table every day?

Meanhwile, you can walk into any corner drug store and buy all the estrogen you want, but testosterone is a controlled substance!

The western male is under attack on all fronts: socially, culturally, politically, economically, legally and even chemically.

Not a pretty picture...

They will need to tread the waste product with ozone to destroy the estrogens or find a way of using them somewhere else.
