Images of the 2009 L.A. Auto Show

Posted December 15, 2009 6:00 AM by CarDomain

This was my first year at the LA Auto Show, and to be perfectly honest, the economy cast a chilly shadow over the whole scene. Most years, the media is scrambling from press conference to press conference trying to keep up with all the new concepts and debuts, but most of the stuff on the floor in La La Land had dropped in Frankfurt, or even before, so manufacturers simply didn't have a lot of fresh meat to toss to out.

That said, there was still some killer stuff on display. While Audi had dropped its electric e-tron concept back in Frankfurt, the example on the floor here was painted a gorgeous, visible-from-space orange, which had everyone scrambling to get pics, and I absolutely loved, loved, loved Honda's P-Nut concept. And don't even get me started on the AMG SLS.

Mercedes' new baby is an absolute stunner, and I can't even imagine how those lines will look when it's out in the wild, stalking driving appliances. I was also pumped to see the 2011 Fiesta — Ford has a mega hit on its hands here — the CTS Coupe's production sheet metal, and Porsche's new Boxster Spyder.

I was once called a barometer.

Two days prior to this blog thread post I posted a thread asking What Was Your First Car?

The economy is in tatters.

I don't see a Pick-up truck, or a van in any of this Blog Thread.

What Pick-up has GM offered?

Only company of US not begging was Ford, and in hard times who needs a car that is only intended to get you to the factory, or the cubicle faked office?

What makes these people think that making cars that sparkle and whistle and go fast with leather seats and butt heaters, and GPS CD players Satellite radio, et al are going to sell to people in desperate situations?

What is being offered is apparently a bunch of stuff made for a period fully 3 years ago in the past.

The people hanging on have pickup trucks, and the people who will hang on will only buy trucks and vans.

Is there a reason why photos are unidentified? Thumbnails are too small to even make an educated guess about identity in most cases; full size have some with no ID of make, model, powertrain, production/concept, etc., etc. Annoying at best!
