Neil Armstrong Explains Why He Didn't Run Wild on the Moon

When Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the Moon in 1969, neither one ever strayed more than 100 yards from the lunar lander. NPR writer Robert Krulwich questioned why this happened in a story yesterday. Today, Armstrong replied.

Interesting story but... C'mon, Gizmodo -- how difficult would it have been to get a photo from the Apollo 11 mission to accompany your story on Neil Armstrong. Apollo 11 didn't have a lunar rover, and the mission was to the relatively flat Sea of Tranquility. The presence of the rover and the mountain in the background makes this look like a photo from Apollo 17.

Given some of the quality of Gizmodo's previous stories just be thankful there wasn't just a screen shot from a TV program such as "Space 1999".
