I think I've finally managed to out-smug my Seattle neighbors.
Parked
directly in front of a garage that contains my old gas-guzzling Mopar is the new Prius Plug-In Hybrid. I have one of just 160 or so they are using in testing this year, but they'll start showing up in dealderships early next year.
Here are a few details on the plug-in program

- More than 160
lithium-ion battery powered Prius will be driven in several U.S. cities
to demonstrate plug-in hybrid technology, to educate and inform the
public, evaluate performance, and better understand the benefits to
future customer.
- Program partners will include universities, corporations, city, state, and federal governments.
- Locations include Northern and Southern California, Boulder, Colorado, New York, Portland, Oregon, and Washington, D.C.
- Program will gather significant real world customer feedback and how
the vehicle performs under different driving conditions.
- Toyota
plans to go to market in early 2012 with a PHV, the RAV4 EV powered by
Tesla, and a small urban commuter battery electric vehicle with
lithium-ion. batteries while we continue to expand our conventional
full-hybrid vehicle lineup.
- Toyota continues to explore other future technologies including hydrogen fuel cells.
- EV mode range of approximately 13 miles.
- Operates in EV mode at speeds up to 60 miles per hour.
- 3 hours charging on standard 110 volt outlet or one and half hours charging with 220 volts.
- Return to to full-hybrid mode when all electric depleted.
