NASA chief: China will beat the U.S. back to moon

Posted October 04, 2007 4:00 PM

From CNN.com - Technology:

The Soviets beat the United States at getting a satellite, and a man, into space. Now, the Chinese may get to the moon before the U.S. can make a return visit. Chinese astronaut Fei Junlong exits the re-entry capsule of Shenzhou VI, China's second manned spacecraft. Fifty years after Sputnik became the world's first artificial satellite, a new race is under way with the finish line on the moon. NASA, the former lunar champion, already is predicting defeat. "I personally believe that China will be back on the moon before we are," NASA Administrator Michael Griffin said in a low-key lecture in Washington two weeks ago, marking the space agency's 50th anniversary, still a year away. "I think when that happens, Americans will not like it. But they will just have to not like it." Griffin's candor startled many in the space community, but insiders acknowledge the reality. China has pulled off two manned spaceflights with its own rockets and is eager to head for the moon.

So they go to the moon~

What are they going to do steal it from the rest of the world?

Who gives a "bleep"! The moon is worthless except for a possible space telescope on the dark side. It's not even a good launch point because it has little gravity throw for getting to other bodies in the Solar System. I'd say it was a waste of money for the Chinese people. Homo Sapiens are 99.7% BS and caught up in their own preoccupations!!! Do something really needed like prevent cancer, MS, heart attacks, or stupid wars like Iraq.

Hello Guest,

It may sound like I'm justifying your so called B.S.

But your comment;

"Do something really needed like prevent cancer, MS, heart attacks, or stupid wars like Iraq."

But can you name how medical advances was achieved through war, and/or exploration such as space?

I'll give you a hint. Prosthesis, antibiotics, transplants, skin grafts. rehab...... not to mention about the psychological discoveries.

It may sound morbid when you realize the root of these advances or discoveries, that may never have happened if it where not for the human so called flaws

Even though it comes to a extreme cost, it can't be denied.

I am showing restraint at the moment.

It is your logic (unless you are going to argue against yourself) and it is absurd to suggest that the world's tech advances are making the world a better place because of wartime tech advances taht could/would not have been developed otherwise. Ludicrous.

I will go toe to toe with you on this into the wee hours.

As for who is stopping me now? Ha. Go ahead and poke me with a stick. It is something that amuses me in the real world as much as it does in this or any other forum.

So as to who is stopping me:

A beautiful 4 year old boy, a beautiful 2 year old boy, a beautiful 5 year old girl, a beautiful 6 year old girl, their stunning 32 year old mother and my plans to go to Inner Space Caverns and an afternoon picnic and social event at Emma Long Park .

Until later my Porsche driving friend in AZ. Perhaps we can respectfully discuss these differing view points then.

With all due respect,

Charles R Rummel III

Slow down CR3....You make it sound like I attacked you in some way.

This is a forum and lets keep it civil.

Nothing is wrong with spending a wonderful day with you kids, its a beautiful day out. And it is a weekend, I also have time a constraint, I'm going on vacation this next week and I am trying to push projects out the door before then,

But when one makes a comment comes up like that's is so wrong, and I'm holding back, that seems if not arrogant at least ignorant, be prepared and follow through. remember this is a forum.

I'll will love to hear your points since you seem quite defensive about. I had looked your portfolio which states that you have a manufacturing background lets keep it there. Unless you choose not to.

And hopefully the oncoming posts and are not over analyzed or till its unrecognizable as the previous posts.

So to begin, As far as the strides in manufacturing, I have worked in the defense industry, though it was over 10 years ago but had gained valued experience, some things are open for debate some not.

Of which the majority of my work orders pertained to R&D. Of which I reconized items/process are in industry right now, at least a variant of. (may not been envolved in, but the link is visible that the origins came from the defense industry or at least partially)

There are also advances made was not made in wartime, please stop reading into more then what was posted, I'll look at it as your opinion.

I will give you that some of these are advances are made in preparation to war. but by no means if it was made during war (which are numerous).

Something about defense, its looked upon as to best to be more proactive than reactive.

Your comment;

"It is your logic (unless you are going to argue against yourself) and it is absurd to suggest that the world's tech advances are making the world a better place because of wartime tech advances that could/would not have been developed otherwise. Ludicrous."

I never said that, read my post you responded to, but to answer your statement, advances where made that may never had occurred or have been delayed until a war, to name a few. penicillium was around decades before WWII, It was WWII that put a priority on it to process it effectively, a few other items microwave technology, communications, I can go into detail on how manufacturing is involved in this if you like.

And since even this is a wide area, explain your stance, or pick one of your choosing.

A little advice though, buck up on your research don't read into more that's not written.

Hint….Arizona never been there.

Enjoy your weekend with your family CR3, I also am looking forward to this debate.

Yes, I have a good deal to say about this matter. Namely a result of what I perceive as a propagandists projection of the 'silver lining' of warfare.

We will discuss in full.

Regards.

But when one makes a comment comes up like that's is so wrong, and I'm holding back, that seems if not arrogant at least ignorant, be prepared and follow through. remember this is a forum.

That statement makes me laugh.

CR3,

"Namely a result of what I perceive as a propagandists projection of the 'silver lining' of warfare. "

Again I'll take this as an opinion,

read my bio, things may not appear what they seem. And again do not read more into it thats there.

Forgive me, but aren't there footprints from twelve astronauts already on the lunar surface?

Oh Right! They filmed it all at area 51 in a hangar.
