Shockingly Pretty

Posted October 27, 2007 7:14 AM

Smart clothing combines two different worlds — textiles and electronics. Although the concept has been around for at least a decade, current intelligent clothing trends indicate that it will become an important part of future fashions. One example of developments in this arena: a jacket made to protect women from unwanted touching by surrounding her with 80,000 volts of electricity.

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Textile Manufacturing & Technology, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Textile Manufacturing & Technology today.

"a jacket made to protect women from unwanted touching by surrounding her with 80,000 volts of electricity. ???

Hope you have lots of liability insurance. People accidentally touch each other all the time. Maybe you could include a sensor that analyses the intent of the toucher in realtion to the touchee. You wouldn't want to leave the decision up to the wearer either, who most most likely is totally deranged anyhow.

I used to have some pigmy goats that became addicted to the electric fence they were in. They spent all day going back and forth for the shock and laughing all the while. Never underestimate the power of electrical stimulation. By the way, a perpetrator might carry a small jumper wire to redirect the shocking truth as it were.
