The Hong Kong International Airport

Posted November 03, 2006 4:33 PM

How did the bustling island city of Hong Kong solve the problem of constructing a new state-of-the-art international airport with no developable land at its disposal? By pulverizing one and a half miles of sea-side mountain, engineers were able to create a brand new island in the sea upon which one of the busiest airports in the world sits. Supporting as many as 87 million travelers per year, the Hong Kong Airport features the world's largest terminal. Hundreds of miles of tunnels and roadways connect the Hong Kong International Airport with the mainland, as the Discovery Channel describes.
