Nuage Vert - Green Cloud in Helsinki Has a Reason

Posted February 01, 2008 8:53 AM

From Newlaunches.com:

How do you make your town aware of the amount of electricity its using? Here is a very novel way. Every night from the 22 to the 29 of February this year, vapor emissions of he Salmisaari power plant in Helsinki (Finland) will be illuminated to correlate the current levels of electricity consumption by local residents. Apparently a laser ray will trace the cloud during the night time and turn it into a city scale neon sign. Nuage Vert is a part of Pollstream series, an artistic intervention in environmental ethics by HeHe (Helen Evans and Heiko Hansen) and is presented by the Pixelache Festival of Electronic Art and Subcultures.

I could just see Mr. Bean switching a light on and off to see if the intensity of the illuminated cloud changes. Failing that, he would find a bigger light until he found the mains for the city...

This is a very good idea and could also be used to make people aware of ott poluters.

Just imaging you sit in your gold encrusted office chair counting the days takings which were made on the back of polution and breaking the environmental laws governing this, while outside some clever bastard lights up the smoke from your chimney, all night long in nice bright colours.

I would like to see the smile on his face then.

What about another laser writing in the cloud all his personal details and other offences he has commited against the environment. And a mobile phone number

I can see this go far
