The GameDr Doesn't Have a Ph.D, But Will Drive Your Kids Nuts

Posted May 20, 2009 2:04 PM

From Gizmodo:

I'm so very glad this didn't come out twenty years ago, or my parents would have used it to set my console usage at 15 minute increments, allowing me to never reach a save point. The GameDr—whose degree I'm almost positive is honorary—can beep warnings at T-10 and T-1 minutes, hopefully to let them reach a checkpoint and turn the game off gracefully. Why wouldn't your kids be smart enough to just take the power cord off and plug it in directly to the power strip? Because it's "tamper proof", which means they'll have to break part of it to get to the cable. It'll be $30 this June.

I understand the grudge against video games. However, if you set up a system with your children that there should be an order of importance to things such as school work, exercise and chores around the house however downtime is spent shouldn't be limited. Video games aren't all bad. Many work on teamwork and communication with others to achieve a goal. And lets be honest, you give your kid money...he'll use it on another power cord that you don't know about.

Necessary is the mother of invention.

But I think if your kids are having problems with school, work, chores around the house or even diet by being over weight by physically inactivity. The parents are the ones that should get some sort of "jack" , by relaying on an electronic babysitting.

You posted everything I deleted!

How many devices can I buy to avoid engaging with my children, setting expectations and limits AND enforcing them?

Raising them, in other words

We're supposed to raise them? I thought that was the government's job!

This will only waken the engineer part in your kid, open op the game console and connect another powercord, but also PC and most recent Consoles have a seperate powerchord so plug the other side of the powerchord into the cd player
