"Diva Mummy" on NGC pretty cool

12/10/2004 4:41 PM

The "Diva Mummy" episode of "Voices from the Pyramids" running on National Geographic Channel was really suprising. I've seen a lot of mummy/pyramid shows, but I've never seen anything like this. Here is a 2000-year old mummy (discovered in China years ago) that did NOT look like your typical desiccated Egyption-style mummy. I mean, this was like "freshly dead" from the "Young Frankenstein" scene. Worth a look.

Info about this episode. See NGC's channel guide.

Ok, you codified Uber-geek, we have both a challenge and a quandry to solve (or at least get explained a little better. And I'm betting it won't be the challenge you think.)

I'm only extracting a question here, but I'm assuming you want to know how/why the Chinese Mummy looked so much different from the standardsa we view a Egyptian Mummy's?

I can think of three things, right off the bat:

  1. BASIC EMBALMING MECHANICAL PROCESSES. Different tools and the methods of organ removal/preservation
  2. BIOLOGICAL/MINERALOGICAL EMBALMING COMPONENTS. Due to the divergent locations and climates we would have to determine the what was used to arrest the decomposition process and result in the dehidration and/or curing processis
  3. CULTURAL EMPHASIS. How long had each culture been doing this and what knowlege they had discovered / picked up
  4. MINERAL AVAILABILITY. What common minerals (antibiologic or desscicant) were available at the times in question.
  5. BIOLOGIC SCIENCE LEVEL of the two civilizations involved.

Ok, Now that I'e got your attention.

I'm not quite sure you'll qualify in my quest as orphan sheppard, but damn it, your the oldest unanswered question on the books, and I know you're still there (since they haven't fired you...yet).

Besides, you have the perfect oportunity to annoy multiple people. You are now Judge, Jury and Executioner...and if it doesn't work out, you can always write a worm to destroy all evidence on your servers :P.

<<ignore this message, it is subliminal..you will respond to this message...you will answer tomkaighin...you will play along or suffer an unending torrent of political wannabes infesting every orafice. Ok, it may not sound like much of a threat to you now...but can I say just 3 words? Barak Clinton Clone! <ok, you can quit screaming now>
