And,,, it employs people. Reminds me of consulting days in Bangladesh. No cranes or lifting devices at all, so the "yard crew" consisted of 35 men. They moved everything with levers and ramps off of and onto rail cars. Best one I saw them do was an old shaper, must have weighed in at least 10 tons.

You'd think they could at least construct a Roman type pile driving apparatus....

Wasn't it the Romans that built the sewer system and other infrastructure ....
how could they do it then, and we seem to be dragging the chain a bit these days?

Nope. It takes aliens with anti-gravity technology to drive a pile. Just ask this guy:

Take a closer look at that video and you will see the spoils of the holes that were hand bored first before these columns/piles were slipped down into the holes. There a few of the post hole digers that were used to create those holes propped around the scene too.

So it's not driving piles to a specified resistance at all. It is core lining only. Light load wet piling?

Here they use various rigs that actually do drive piles to resistance. Some have manually lifted pile hammers, some use winches to lift the hammer.

Bigger sites use contemporary powered equipment.

But I will remember this technique, I'm sure it will come in handy one day.
