I have a bucket of copper here, about 60 LBS worth. If you can trans mutate it to GOLD, I will split it with you.

Copper has an atomic number of 29 and a nominal mass of 63. Gold has an atomic number of 79 and a nominal mass of 196. So unless you have the force of a stellar explosion like a super nova to fuse three Copper atoms together, the answer is no.

Oh and by the way, a lot of other isotopes will also be produced if one does this.

I don't know about the facts on this but what if there was some circuitry with gold components that flashed over some atoms in the meltdown?

At present the technology has not been perfected however that could change at any time.

The issue is and will be the cost of converting the copper or any other metal to a different, more precious metal exceeds the realized payback.

Rather recent discovery of bacteria that consumes ore and excretes concentrated precious metal is very promising however the risk to the health of all humans involved in the process is very high. (Cheap but extremely dangerous.)
