Source of strange questions.

11/25/2007 2:20 AM

My grandson is a member of the chat room "Answers" on Yahoo.

Most of the questions are teenage related and do not make any mathematical sense.

{ I am A and my friend C went to bed with my boyfriend B - Should I

1. leave B 2. kill C 3. Go out with D 4 whatever. }

They earn 2 points for each post and 10 points for the best answer.)

I am not sure how the voting works but the best answers do not always seem to be what a parent would like to see.

Back to the strange questions.

The also have engineering, scientific etc sections with some weird questions.

Why 50/60 cycles, Why 11kv steps, What is the best course, Explain difference, why this why that. . . . .

I think some of these questions may be asked from CR4 in an attempt to earn points.

How do you think we should answer to educate these youngsters the best?

Note: It may also be possible that CR4 questions are posted on "Answers" to obtain "expert" advice.

Re: Source of strange questions.

Hello Hendrik,

If these "Questions" are asked here, because of how the question/s are formatted/formulated, it should be easy to note which ones they are.

Thus the answers given can be appropriate to the actual question/s as given.

Only a few minutes ago, I answered some poorly formulated questions in the Electrical/Mechanical sections - one question was actually doubled up,which I did not realize at the time.

By the time I got to the 4th question, I put in an interesting answer, and Copy/Pasted that same answer into the answer for the 5th question.

I await the response (if any) from the Topic Poster, with interest.....

Hi SparkY

Good answer x 4.

You are new here but prepare for a question "Why the generating voltage is in 11kV steps".

I think my next reply will be - To aid power warping.

What happend NZ and OZ in the World Cup this year? I think we are in for a "white" wash next season.

Hendrik

Hello Hendrik,

"I think my next reply will be - To aid power warping."

Ha Ha Ha

"What happend NZ and OZ in the World Cup this year? I think we are in for a "white" wash next season."

I think Sport is a distraction for the masses, so they do not realize what is really going on in the world....

Maybe then, with the inept performance of the England football team, the UK will have an upsurge in political interest?

(Even I could have saved that first goal..)

"...England football team..." ??? That's the trouble - there isn't a team, just a bunch of 11 vastly overpaid, albeit highly skilled, individuals.

Having a daughter of 14, I always like to see some interest shown in any educational matter. I am lucky with mine, she is very bright and does well at shool. Not nerdy but well balanced, like me

I think we should invite them to participate and register. If they use the info to go somehwere else to "earn" points than that is a shame but I just hope that the contact they have with us here does make a difference and will win some over to science and technology.

I think we can tell that difference between interest or fained attention. Why has curlyhairedmenace not been back I wonder? Maybe I am wrong and we cannot tell the difference at all

Love walks in the dales. I have friends in Ilkley and Halifax. Had customers in Halifax, Wakefield, Rotherham and Bradford.

Liked Halifax quite a lot. Getting too busy now though, shame.

'Love walks in the dales..'

Blimey that flashed up the weirdest of images... sort of the opposite of 'Death' walking in the 'valley of death' with his scythe.

Image a love as strapping greek lad with a lyre and maybe a nice re-curved bow like cupid strolling about along the riverbank in Dovedale...complete with doves?

Anyone have the number of a cheap trick cyclist?

Too much red wine with Sunday lunch!

We have a trick cyclist in the village here, I don't know his number though.

He is a woodturner / furniture builder by real trade but earns extra on the single wheel or with flying daggers and the sorts. Good laugh.

I for one, am glad to hear that teenagers are asking basic questions such as why 11kV steps... etc...

At least it shows that there are some youngsters who are asking why? Too many times I've talked to youngsters and been horrified at their lack of knowledge of even the basic everyday items they use!

Long may they continue to ask why? at every thing that is sometimes taken for granted by the majority...

John.

Yeah, I'd like to see young folks getting some good practical assistance. The CR4 crowd has a ton of knowledge and most of us don't mind sharing. We'd need some way of identifying those folks so that we know to explain all the basics and don't blow smoke up their skirts.

Lack of knowledge is not so bad - it can be ameliorated by supply.

What worries me more is lack of desire for knowledge.

Here is a nice question!

How do you prepare Thanksgiving turkey?

My reply would be!

I don't think a turkey will thank anyone for killing, stuffing and roasting him (or her).

Dr Phil should do the preparing.

We in SA do not do thanksgiving.
