Sounds like something more suited to measurement than calculation.

Fill a tub with water. Stand naked in tub up to your waist. Record increase in water volume. Subtract out a bit for your feet. Add in a bit if you wear your jeans loose.

Inflate balloons inside of the pants to hold the pants in an expanded position.

Fill a measured container to the very top.

Submerge the pants to displace the water over the top of the container.

Remove the pants, and measure displacement.

NOTE: You may want to submerge the pants relatively quickly if the balloons don't occupy all of the volume of the pants.

Can't we just break the pair of pants into cylinders and get close?

I don't know what happened to the pics, I would have to regenerate them. Basically I sketched two long cylinders for legs and one short, wide cylinder for the trunk portion. My question was along the lies of braking the "Pair of Pants" into a set of cylinders, which we know the volume calulation for.

Can you break it down into easy calculable pieces! Like the two legs, and the center section?

And why is "brassier" singular but "panties" plural?

A 'pair of pants" or "pants leg" is a duct transition from a single trunk to two parallel trunks that looks like(surprise) a pair of trousers.

Break the transition into three or more shapes, calculate the volume of each shape, and sum the numbers.

Or seal the ends, fill with water, and measure the gallons required to fill it up.

With or without you in them?

Fill them with plaster then do a water tank test. Portland cement will work too.

Got a CAD file?

Most 3d CAD programs will give you the volume of any shape you can model or scan.

I think you've got the picture. To answer the question, I believe pants and trousers are similar with different terminology used depending on which side of the pond you are on. With ventilation ductwork, the trunk and legs are usually square transitions. Therefore, to compute the volume, split the shape into sections that are simpler to calculate and sum the volumes of the pieces.

Obvisously my tongue is too far in my check for you to spot my sarcasm. Have a cider for me also, glad to have other folks that aren't overly serious about life.

Yes, your answer is also correct, but with the other posts I thought is needed to be repeated a bit more s-l-o-w-l-y.

I always seem to do better with the simpler questions.
