Do you Klondike, Spider, or Free Cell?

05/15/2008 8:56 AM

According to a Microsoft employee solitaire is the most used program in Windows. In fact there was a developer specifically dedicated to updating it for Microsoft Vista. It was originally included into Windows to "soothe people intimidated by the operating system" and to teach mouse skills to the uninitiated.

Microsoft's usability research crew discovered that the three most-played computer games (solitaire or something else, Microsoft or otherwise, preloaded or user-installed) are, in order … Spider Solitaire, Klondike Solitaire, and FreeCell.

So which is it? Which game is the one you choose when you want a little "mental break"?

If I'm waiting for a download/installation or whatever to complete, I solitaire (its Help doesn't mention spiders or Klondike). I used to Freecell, but it took up too much time - I'd keep playing way after whatever-it-was completed.

Hang on...

If I understand correctly, you're saying that there is something else that Windows can do besides solitare?

Rubbish (who was the employee, a secretary perhaps?). From my experience it's "Task Manager". Shut down you stupid %#&$!

Well that and "Internet Explorer".

Hello julie

Of the few games offered by Microsoft, my favourite is "Space Cadet Pinball".

I don't use M$ Vi$ta at all, and have no intention of using such a bloated Operating System.

kind Regards....

A pox on micromush for leaving FreeCell out of the XP product. I have not been able to locate a copy to install.

Does anyone know where to get FreeCell for XP ???

First of all I mine sweep. I can't usually trust Windows to do much more than that. Well except to tell me that some program is not responding. Oh and my version of XP came with Freecell.

Freecell came with my versions of XP (yes, I am running multiple versions of XP, not on the same computer). The games are no longer under "accessories" as they were in 98, but under their own program group. I have also encountered XP installations where the games did not show up on any menu- but they are on the computer. Check "my computer/Windows/system" or "MyComputer/Windows/System32".

Hello Stirling Stan

Freecell is a standard game with WinXP, both home and Pro Editions.

Looks like someone has "removed it" from your PC.

Normally it may be found at Start -> Programs -> Games ->Freecell.

At that position, there should be a shortcut, labelled "Freecell", which, when clicked on, accesses the game from the permanent location.

However, it is probably still located in the original place.

Check out C:\WINDOWS\System32

You should be able to locate the 54KB application.

Then for ease of use, just run a shortcut to your desktop, or other easy place, and you are able to access it easily.

If you do not have it at all, please send me a PM with your email address, and I shall email you the game as a WinRAR (Zip)file.

Kind Regards....

Truly, not much time to play games, but when I have a moment, I would rather challenge myself than just watch the cards. I have a Sudoku game that is quick and archives results, so I can see if I'm having an 'on' day or an 'off' day. I DON'T track to see which days were 'bad' , just a momentary input to see if I am 'above average' or 'below' at the moment.

Klondike, Pinball, Free Cell, Pyramid.

Had Dominoes on my old 'puter, but it wouldn't load on my new one.

To go off on a tangent, my favorite cell phone games are Snake and Air Glider. and I really miss playing Minehunt on my HP32G graphing calculator.
