7 wire pigtail

05/19/2008 6:58 PM

I am looking for a seven wire pigtail with a round 7 wire plud at each end (1 male and 1female end.) This plug in system is used by auto manufactures for trailer towing. Are you able to build such a unit? Thanks Bob pfytinc@loretel.net Office 218-861-6131 or cell 701-238-6289

Hello Guest,

It's much easier if you advise your location, and/or place a picture in your Post.

I can think of several non-compatible "trailer towing types of connections, some include 7 pin plug/sockets".

You could register at CR4 Forum, as you may well have much to contribute here.

Kind Regards....

Judging by your telephone number you must be in North America someplace. It sounds like a standard trailer / RV plug used for any trailer with electric brakes in addition to just lights. Almost any auto parts store would have it or be able to order it in a couple of days.

If you have a real odd-ball setup - like I once did -you can wire your ends to a terminal strip. then cross, parallel or add steering diodes to suit. I had a Datsun truck with separate brake and turn bulbs plus I needed electric brakes for the trailer wired North Americn style with only four wires. A junction box with two terminal strips allowed me to create the hybrid connections. The plug and socket was obtained at the nearest trailer place. Total cost under $15.00 for everything.

Towing electrical connections for tralers have switched from the old 4 wire to a 7 wire connection. You should be able to find it at a trailer hitch shop, RV traler store, farm supply store, or auto parts store. Art's RV in Glen Ellyn I think has them, although from your phone numbers I'm guessing you're in the Red River Valley? Check with Farm n' Fleet?

That link was for trailers for sale. didn't see any connectors.

However, while visiting the brother in law this week-end guess what I saw sitting on his work bench. A 4 wire to 7 pin adaptor. He paid something liek $9 at the local autopart store. They are available everywhere.

I do not have a problem finding the 7 wire harness, what I am looking for is a manufacture of the plug to see if they offer different designs for my application. The 7 wire female end need a 45 degree angle very close to the terminals. (manufacutures I have found do not make such a unit)

Great to talk to you on the phone. The quantity that you seek are way to low for anyone to manufacture alone.

As we discussed, look into the connector manufacturers that I mentioned. They may have something suitable for your specific application.
