Mass = volume x density.

Calculate the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the beam or whatever, then the mass = CSA x length x density. Make sure all the units and multipliers are correct (all m or mm or ft or in etc).

Re: ms angle weight calculation formula

This works for any CSA & density. I'm too tired to look up specific details, so I'll make something up. HERE IS ONE EXAMPLE.

Take a rectangular section beam, 1cm x 10cm x 1,000cm.

CSA = 1 x 10 = 10cm2.

Volume = CSA x length = 10 x 1,000 = 10,000cm3.

Assume density = 2g/cm3 (twice the density of water).

Weight of beam = 10,000 x 2 = 20,000g = 20kg.

(I really shouldn't be doing homework at this time of night).

Hi,

1. Weight of MS Angle = (2*W-T)*T*L*7840 kg (All units are in MKS)

Where,

S = Width of any side in mtr

T = Thickness of the angle in mtr.

L = Length of the angle in mtr.

7840 is the density of MS in kg / m3.

For an example, Suppose angle size 50 x 6 mm

Then weight works out from the above formulae = 4.5 kg (approx), pl. give a try.

2. Weight of MS Pipe = Pi*(R2-r2)*L*7840 kg. (All units are in MKS)

Where,

R = Outer radius of the pipe

r = Inner radius of the pipe

3. For Sheet you can apply Weight = Volume x Density.

Example, Suppose an MS Sheet dimesion given as 1.2 m x 2.4 m x 2 mm thick

Then weight of this sheet = 1.2*2.4*0.002*7840 kg = 45 kg (Approx)

Re: ms angle weight calculation formula

As per the formula above,

Weight of MS Angle per mtr. = (2*W-T)*T*7840 kg (All units are in SI)

Where,

W = Width of any side in mtr

T = Thickness of the angle in mtr.

7840 is the density of MS in kg / m3.

For 75 x 75 x 8 mm MS Angle

Weight per mtr. = (2*0.075-0.008)*.008*7840 kg = 8.9 kg

Re: ms angle weight calculation formula

( 2 x w - T ) T X 7840 ( Where 7840 is the density of MS in kg/m3 )

= ( 2 x 0.075 - 0.008 ) 0.008 x 7840

= ( 0.15 - 0.008) 0.008 x 7840

= 0.142 x 0.008 x 7840

= 0.001136 x 7840

= 8.9 kg

Re: ms angle weight calculation formula

12/08/2009 8:03 AM

example =

ANGLE SIZE 50X 50 X 5THK (1 METRE =1000 MM)

WEIGHT = VOLUME X DENSITY

VOLUME =LENGTH X WIDTH X THICKNESS

MILD STEEL (M.S) DENSITY =.786 GM/CM SQUARE

VOLUME 50X 1000 X 5 = 25000 /1000 =250 X 2=500 (2 HERE ANGLE IS TWO RECTANGLE SHAPE)

MILD STEEL (M.S) DENSITY =.786 GM/CM SQUARE

WEIGHT =500 X .786 =3.9 KG PER METRE

Are all the guests (except this one ) forgotten the basic physics and mathematics or never studied it at all.

This can be calculated within minutes/ just write a small excell program.My class 6 child does it every now and then.

At least the area of elbow and tees had some mathematics. The time taken by all of you to open the site and type the question would be at least twice of the time taken for you to calculate.

You must be searching readymade answers from net (though even there it will be available)

Do some maths it helps.

Dear sir,

what u said is totally correct. I agree with you in all respect. this is happening only because the new generation seems more interested in chatting & surfing the net then brushing their fundamentals in spare time. Moreover with the mushrooming of unlimted so called poineer engineering institutes are just churning & sequeezing money from parents & producing nothing.
