Transesterification product mix of biodiesel and by-products is often water-washed by mist washing; however, that approach has water droplets or spheroid falling through the biodiesel fluid and even getting trapped within the biodiesel, and as such problematic. However, a more efficacious approach based on the formation of Micelles suggests having the biodiesel droplets float through the water. A concept design serving a basis for all biodiesel washing separator designers to build on have been developed and extensively discussed with respect to the underlying scienceand design limitations.
