volume of oval cylinder

08/12/2008 8:38 AM

what is the formula to find area of blue colour where the bigger radius of the elipse is "a", the smaller radius of the elipse(which is exactly the same to the radius of the circle) is "b"?

Area of circle = ∏ x b x b

Area of ellipse = ∏ x a x b

Blue area = ∏ x b x (a - b)

OK, but the question was about an oval, not an ellipse. An oval is two circles, usually overlapping, joined by two tangential lines. An ellipise is the common radius defined by two foci ... not the same shape.
