Rotary Screw Air Compressors

08/21/2008 11:37 AM

Does anyone know a Design Engineer who is familiar with rotary screw air compressors? If so, I would like to be introduced. This is a very unique skill, so I figured that I would start here.

Have you looked up a company called "Mono Pumps"?

They make those rotary screw type pumps, and rotary cavity pumps

Most Auto Superchargers are a rotary screw air compressor...

So talk to anyone seriously involved in the drag racing industry for some basic info.

Rotary air screw? how?

Most of the ones I have played with are 3 interlocking vane type, similar to how a oil pump works, but much larger volume.

When referring the type of machines, some times there use to confusions and misnomers. The following pictures are to help to have better understanding.

Some more interesting reference can be availed from the website: http://www.yesyen.com/downloads.php

Game on Compressors (type: zip, size: 1468.41 K)

The game intends to evaluate the clarity on the various types of Compressors.

Game on Positive Displacement Pumps (type: zip, size: 2010.02 K)

The game intends to evaluate the clarity on the various types of Positive Displacement Pumps.

Hendrik, I have been doing quite a bit of research on Curtis Toledo and other similar companies...Gardner Denver, Kaeser, Quincy and Hitachi. Thanks for the heads up though. Ultimately I would like to link up with one of the engineers that works at one of these places. Thanks for the heads up.

OldTech, I am looking more into the design of portable air compressors (30/60/90). Good point though, haven't thought of that.

Snaketails, I am going to look into Monopumps today. Thanks.

Mono Pums and Moyno Pumps are making 'progressing cavity pumps' and related products only but not compressors.

Elgi, AtlAS Copco, Howdem, Hitachi, GHH, Arezonar, Kaeser, PME, Allens and many more are manufactring screw compressors for long time. But what are you looking for? Some on who would assets you designing screw compressor? Or use screw compressor for a particular service?

Yesyen, Thank you for the company names, I did not realize that there were so many companies that designed and manufactured these types of compressors. Essentially, I am looking for an individual that has "cradle-to-grave" experience with the design of rotary screw air compressors for use in construction industry(used to operate power tools). This would include going from specs to production(NPD). Like I said, not many of these folks in existence...

yes, screw compressors are wonderful machine with just two dynamic basic components. Screws are of very unique configuration and have to be of high precision, more so for dry machine than for lubricated type.

where are you located? If India, Elgi is located in south, could be of great help to you towards customising some of their existing models, if you have continuous bulk requirement.

Aurel, thank you for your help. I will look into their line of compressors. Do you know if they do design work in the U.S.?
