Thermo stable paint

08/27/2008 9:47 AM

Hi! I am searching for a paint that can withstand temperature upto 250C without much fading. Actually, we are in refractory manufacturing and want to stamp our product before drying. The problem is what paint (water based) we are using presently fades during the drying process. So, we need to do stamping after drying. If we find a right quality of paint that can stand drying upto 250C without much fading then our process would become much faster. Also, our product contains graphite fines around 10%. Please help.

rajdarbhangi,

(I am not sure about the availability of these products globally)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

You can purchase paint made for automobile engine components from dupli-color.

They claim their paint can resist temperatures up to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C)

They also have a high heat formula, which they claim resists temperatures up to 1200 degrees F (approx. 650 degrees C):

http://www.duplicolor.com/products/engine.html

-----------------------------------------------------------------

You can purchase "stove paint" from Thurmalox, also claiming heat resistance to 1200 degrees F: http://www.stovepaint.com/

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lastly, Rust-Oleum has a line of heat resistant paints, with varying heat resistance ratings:

Just my $0.02...

Hi Raj....

Assuming that your refractory bricks, or whatever they are, are made from Silica based material, Than I believe your best bet is to move away from paints and mark it using a LASER etching process. No paint, No fading.

Our products are mainly either MgO based or Al2O3 based. Due to graphite powder mixing, it looks completely black so usually we use white, blue, yellow or red paints. Also, it is just for product identification which is going to be consumed in 6-9 months. So, cost is also a factor.

You can acess to www.carboline.com , we are using this paints systems for HIGH TEMP.

Carboline technical personnel can help you out to find the right paint.

I agree with The JMAN that THURMALOX is a good paint, but it is too expensive.

Try a paint manufacturer who sells stoving paints, used for wood-burning stoves, gas and electric ranges, etc. They are rated for much highe temperatures.
