HELP! There's a skunk in my living room!

09/03/2008 10:54 AM

The strangest think just happened. I have the day off today. I took the dogs for a run, and came home to play on the computer for a while. It's a beautiful day, so I left the door wide open. The dogs quickly fell asleep. So, I'm sitting here, turn my head, and there's this skunk standing there looking at me no more than a meter away. I freeze. The dogs wake up, look, and don't move, (perhaps remembering the ugly skunk incident in the woods earlier this year). Finally, to break the ice, I say, "Would you care to join me for tea and scones?" Guess not, he slowly turned, sauntered out the door, walked down to the pond, and disappeared into a hole in the ground.

I live in a wood, surrounded on 2 sides by water, so I'm used to wildlife being around. I don't want to harm this animal, however, I have been smelling skunk all the time for the last few weeks. Is there any way I could, perhaps, convince him to move?

Have you considered lowering tea and scones down his hole?

If that doesn't work then escalate to root beer and biscotti. This is war, man.

Perhaps I can live in harmony with Pepé Le Pew.

pepe_le_pew

I was thinking Canadian Club and pickled eggs, however I think he prefers bugs and vermin,(sorry Vermin).

Unfortunately it is illegal in your state(republic) to keep it as a pet

Why don't you ask the little stinker the next time you see him?

OK as long as you handle it the same way as before. No sudden or threatening moves. Talk in a low calm voice. Make no movements while they are eating the scones.

Keeping these rules in mind you will wake up the next morning with a cuddly friend and the best mouser in the county. Mind you Sylvester, and Del the cat may be jealous and call the cops.

At work Monday morning, I have a meeting with a gaggle of accountants. I'm going to put Pepé on my team and bring him along.

My parents used something called "Critter Ridder" to get rid of possums. It's not a poison I don't think. Just something that irritates them.

PMSL...
It must be about the time for making pickled walnuts...I did some one year...got the recipe off the internet, they were barely edible..I should have ignored the recipe and gone by instinct.

Hmmm surely there must be a European Directive for the effective making of picked walnuts?

It gets worse...."

The Section asked the USA to make some changes to the proposed color gauge for inshell walnuts and walnut kernels. The delegation informed that the US walnut industry is planning to submit the brochure on inshell walnuts and walnut kernels by 15 August 2008 for comments prior to the November meeting of the Working Party.

The delegation of Germany expects to present a revised version of the Standard for Whole Dates, aligned with the current standard layout, at the 2009 meeting of the Session. Delegations were invited to submit their comments to the German delegation."

Who'd a thought theyd have a standard for "nuts?"

Skunks can be attracted to pet food was wondering if you feed those dogs out side on the porch. He ain't going to go away if there is a free meal. So the last thing you want to do is invite him in for tea and scones.

Yessir! we used to leave a bowl of cat food outback_ the raccoons moved under the porch next door. took three years of no cat food to get the racoons on a "not every darn night " visitation schedule.

Moth balls!!!!!!

Skunks hate the smell of moth balls. But it does take a constant effort till the skunk stop comming around. Hope you don't have a den with a female that will be a real pain throwing the moth balls back in their den.

We had a skuck problem around the chickens and moth balls cure that. Moth balls around the fence and they get a snot full while trying to get in.

Some farmers pour used motor oil around thier fence rows to keep snakes and skunks out too. I figure that would keep as many in as out.

Good answer. It worked for me when we had skunks under the front step.

You do have to keep throwing them in, because the skunk will throw them out a couple of times. Eventually, they wioll get the idea they are not welcome and move on.
