Hello Nidal

autorun.inf is not a Virus, but a simple text instruction related to the auto-starting of CD and DVD Drives.

If you remove autorun.inf, your CD/DVD Drive/s may not work correctly afterwards.

Read more about it here: http://autorun.moonvalley.com/autoruninf.htm

On that webpage there are links for testing autorun.inf and also another which shows you how to turn autorun.inf on or off.

You have not advised the Operating System you are using, along with actual version number, if WinXP advise Home or Pro version, if Vista advise type also.

Do you have Administrator Access, because if you do not have Admin Access, you will not be able to change to ""Show Hidden Files", as they are part of the Operating System, and normally should be not interfered with.

Reply here, with

Kind Regards....

Here's a virus which associated with autorun.inf, but one affects mostly FlashDrives. Is your problem tied to any removable device?

Some of antivirus software can troubleshoot this problem some cannot.

Google the issue it can help. I would suggest you to reformat your removable devices time to time.

Good luck.

It's not Apply or OK. It's Apply and OK. OK saves the new setting. Apply does not. To verify, go back to folder options and see if the pertinent box remains checked appropriately.

Also, be sure to spread the columns to allow space. If the file name column is too narrow, the extension could be there but concealed. An ellipsis after the file name will generally indicate something is hidden under the next column to the right.

I have worked on some computers where you have to go into the registry and change a value of an entry to allow windows to even give you that option as an admistrator. I would google it, thats what I did.
