You should not be doing this. Google "how to install a 240 volt dryer circuit" or go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a home wiring book. You get it wrong and the house starts to smoke.

I advise everyone who tries this that they should get a professional to do it. The last thing you want is to accidentally start a fire which likely WONT be covered by your insurance, not to mention it is illegal in most countries.

The risk just isn't worth it in my opinion, especially if you have no electrical experience in safe circuit testing and isolation. The chances of accidental electrocution are just too high, and many have been killed this way.

Having said that, a good number of jurisdictions in North America, I'm willing to bet in many other places as well, allow a home owner of a fully detached single family home to do, under permit, his own electrical work.

Short duration courses are available at many colleges and most libraries have the material you need to learn readily available. Go... read and learn then if permitted in your area, take our a permit, do the job and then have it inspected.

It is not a very difficult job, just a deadly one, without the proper knowledge. Let us know how you make out.

While technically correct, in some portions of the world, this drawing is not proper for all areas. If the intended installation of this 240 volt circuit is North America, then this drawing is in error.

You have been given some very good advice here. I will not go against that. Let me say that, after having availed yourself of the various and sundry options given here to allow you the knowledge to try this yourself, there are still considerations that make this a dubious and dnagerous process at best.

Information that is not known from your post does not allow an intelligent reply. You don't indicate where the Circuit Breaker is to be installed. If you have a "snap-in" type of distribution box, the breaker can be simply wired to the load wires and snapped in place. That is easy enough. However, if you are proposing to mount a remote circuit breaker in a separate enclosure near the appliance, that presents a whole other set of circumstances. That involves wiring to the breaker from the main source which is very dangerous if you are not in the business of doing that sort of installation.

I hope I have given you just enough information to disuade you from even trying to do this yourself. I know that many of us, including myself, enjoy a good challenge from time to time. This is not a "good" challenge. Hire an electrician to do the job. Watch him intently. Ask questions during the installation. Perhaps you will learn something about it. However, I am sure it will still not be sufficient for you to try it. Trust those who have submitted replies above. Spend a few bucks. Then you can come back and tell us how easy it was and that you know you could have done it yourself. That's what I'd do!!

guest; in the Usa we use 120/240 volts f most domestic build dryers will have a 4 wire set up, red, white, black, & a ground wire, green or bare copper/alum, the dryer is 120 volt motor & timer, 240 volt heating elements. perry

Maybe you should try a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) See this link www.bender.org. Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get them to show you the 240 volt wire, the 240 volt receptacle to match with your dryer plug which may also need to be change to a new version requiring to purchase both, and of course the breakers for the dryer. Get the model and serial number plus the dryer rating to show them and they should answer all those questions. Both Lowes and Home Depot have Do-It-Yourself Help pages.

Since you did not say that the electric dryer is installed to your home or you are installing into a auto or a travel van I assume it is the home where it should be installed with a wife defining the urgency. You may look for a instruction pamplet through Google for your model and serial number paying attention to the brand name of the electric dryer. It is the better route to learn all about your brand name product.
