2001 Excursion

10/25/2008 12:36 PM

2001 Ford Excursion, 7.3 Diesel, just got it back from the repair shop and now the theft light is flashing and today the truck sits in the driveway and will not start.

Any ideas?

#1 rule of auto mechanics!

The last one that touched it screwed it up.

What was repaired? Did you get a new key? Was the ignition switch repaired, replaced, or removed? A few more facts would help.

Glow plug was replaced. No new keys same old chip in the origional key. I susspect the transciever has failed but do not havethe proper testing tools to know.

Ahh yes, my first though was back to the dealer........the dealer is closed and bankrupt with the curent economy. Fords response was "they are all independent dealerships".

In California, go the the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR). I have found them to be willing, able, and helpful. Maybe they could point you in the right direction...with the manufacturer (never mind the "independent" stuff...they're only independent when it suits their purpose(s)).

Anti theft module has been tripped.

Try putting the key in the driver door, lock and unlock 3 times. Put key in ignition and start. If it won't start the key switch transponder is not recoginizing the rf transmitter in the Key. If the mechanics were under the dash or around the column, they could have disconnected or damaged a wire leading to the transponder.

Also check anti theft fuse in driver knee panel (If I remember correctly) or under the hood box.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! The drivers door did the trick. My wife is so very happy that she has MY truck back to drive.

Funny how they probably would have charged me a few hundred to do that at Ford.
