Troubleshooting Fluorescent Ballasts

Hey all . Just wondering if anyone had info on troubleshooting 120vac ballasts with a Fluke meter . Thanks .

use coil tester like blue ringer tester by anatekcorp.

Even incandescent bulb can use to test ballast, very simple just series your ballast to incandescent bulb, if the bulb dimmed than normal brightness then your ballast is good, if the bulb doesn't on, then its burnt, if the bulb too bright as normal your ballast is shorted

Roman, I love that common sense approach you take..

When I worked for Sylvania Lighting Ser. we changed many ballast.

So, you do learn a few things by experince.

Ohm the primary & secondary (as long as it's not an electronic ballast). As long as the reading is not infinity or zero ohms, it is probably good. Use high & low scales on your fluke & record the readings. Let me know, if you want.
