Removing Chrome from Mild Steel

01/24/2009 1:05 PM

Dear CR4 Members:

We need advice on best way to remove chrome from mild steel parts. The biggest part is about 10" by 8" by 8" (50 lbs), with machined surfaces.

We are removing chrome and applying a new thicker coating for wear resistance (3/16"). The chrome is removed to keep it from contaminating our processing equipment.

Any help would be appreciated-Thank you

(Senatorferrell is a nickname my son calls one of his football teammates).

This is no joke, once i was working on some electrical equipment and spilled some Red Bull there was a chrome key left in it (those huge keys used in factories) when i came back a little later the chrome was gone on the part that was in the red bull, so what ever is in red bull is good for getting rid of chrome.
