Does anyone know if there is any power plant running by volcanic heat?

is it possible?

Yes..... in Iceland as well as a few Pacific islands electricity is generated by Geothermal power plants.

Lihir Gold Mine on Lihir Island (look at 3.13 s 152.64e in Google Earth) in PNG is inside the Caldera of a dormant volcano. They generate most of their power needs (35 MW) from geothermal steam.

Pacific Gas & Electric has had the Geysers geothermal plants near Napa, CA for many decades. I believe they have had problems with minerals depositing on the turbines, as well as with particle erosion and cavitation. There are also several smaller geothermal plants on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. I haven't heard about the current status of any of these for at least 10 years, so they may or may not still be operating...

Yes it´s possible, in Havai, Islands, Azores ( Portugal ), and so on. Any way if you are looking for a volcano only as a source heat, perhaps very close to you, there would be a large amount of heat energy as " waste heat industrial energy". You can find termoelectrics power plants in "Google" , or another Internet Search Engine. Keys Words: Bottoming Cycles, Organic Rankine Cycles, Low Enthaply Resources. Sure, they shouldl be technical matter.

The Philippines has some of biggest capacity geothermal plants. Try a search for "Philippine Geothermal Inc.".

Hmm, I believe all geothermal plants operate using groundwater that interacts with subsurface volcanic activity (near proximity to molten earthen materials). I have not heard of any direct interaction between a power generating plant and the molten volcanic materials at the surface.

i submitted my "earthtap" power system idea to '"ERDA", IN'70,'71,AND'72; HEARD NOTHING FROM THEM; TILL I SAW THE COVER OF MY AUG.'77 ISSUE OF "mI". if you have, or can get an old copy. you might wonder, like me, why Enron was there at all! and why the ocean end of the"valley of ten thousand smokes" S. CAL. does not have an operating 100-200 gigawatt powerplant operating NOW!. most geothermal plants are trying to use the natural steam, very messy/toxic stuff usually, or are pumping cold water onto "hotrocks" underground/for dirty steam, and playing with possibly starting a minor? earthquake!. ERDA calls it "Magmatap"(their way of adopting my idea, without having to give me the patent rights, to my own idea?, !). i'm glad i did NOT include my "Horizon to Horizon" power transmission system.. the fact that the "Democrat majority" on the hill would not provide the couple billion needed, to make it an operating system, in several places around the world(including Antartica!) tells me i should hve gone to the GE innovation boys, first.. more power to ya, chukfinn...
