House Approves Bill to Address Threat of Global Warming

The 219-212 vote marked the first time that either house of Congress has approved a bill aimed at curbing the heat-trapping gases scientists have linked to climate change, and it could lead to sweeping changes in many sectors of the American economy, including electric power generation, agriculture, manufacturing and construction.

But I expect that the Senate will not approve it.... So it does not matter.

Aw, com'on Steve. Think posiitvely. The F%(¥£®ζ will have to stop handing it off sooner or later. I'll be there, locked and loaded.

Steve, I pray that you are correct. that bill is an economic disaster in the making. If it is approved by the senate I'm packing up and moving to Galt's Gulch and waiting for the looter government to implode from it's own stupidity.

Rorschach, I enthusiastically second your motion, Galt's Gulch will be the place to go, although I don't think it will end up being in Colorado, my guess would be the Republic of Texas. The wife will hop onto the back of the motorcycle and we will just head west out of Taxsylvania towards that general vicinity.

IMO, the recent events are eerily reminiscent of "Atlas Shrugged", the recent DC train crash tragedy is not on the same scale as the train collision in the tunnel (in the book) but we should all expect a poorly maintained infrastructure to continue to decay as we focus more and more on the altruistic policies done in the name of economic "fairness."

"Today's razor-thin vote in the House spells doom in the Senate," Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., the top Republican on the Senate's environment panel, said in a statement issued after the vote.

For an issue where "the debate is OVER, we must act NOW" there sure seems to be a sizable opposition.

Perhaps there's more to the issue than what you hear on CNN.

This is nothing more than another hidden tax that would be administered by an un-elected, unaccountable body, the EPA. And 80% of the revenue has already been promised away to special interests. In case everyone has forgotten the lessons of the 70's oil crisis, we need to drill here, now. China and India will more than make up for any carbon savings we sacrifice for.

Besides, this is based on junk science. Back during the 70's, Paul Erlich, the "godfather" of evironmentalism, was making the case for a premature ice age induced by the particulate matter we were putting into the air. If that was true, then we have gotten precisely what we asked for by "cleaning the windows" so the sun can shine in.

I have found that our temperatures and weather patterns seem to follow the activity trends of that large fusion reactor about 93 million miles out.

So when Algore starts living in a cave wearing a grass suit and travels around in an ox cart to pontificate to us how we're despoiling the planet, I'll take him a little more seriously.

Remember that we are beset with a political class that is only interrested in control; they would rather rule in Hell than serve in Heaven.

Listen carefully, they are preparing the last nail in the coffin of American freedom. If this bill passes, another trillion dollars will be issued to deal with the perceived issues. This will do nothing for the environment, and everything to crush freedom, through the taxation of inflation. Persecution and impoverishment will be more rampant.

Mad As Hell.

Phoenix, no they could not possibly have read it. It was a 1500 page economic suicide note.

Re: House Approves Bill to Address Threat of Global Warming

Sorry, but I must join the ranks of the PESSIMISTS ...

Government (ANY government) rarely does anything quickly. Government never does anything efficiently.

As it has already been said, even if passed, it will fall into the hands of the 'sitters and spenders' rather than into the hands of the 'movers and shakers', and be just one more way for the government to tell the populous what they 'can't do' rather than just getting to the business of 'fixing things'.

Anytime folks are somehow FORCED to change, it never works quite as well as when they are given a good reason to change. That comes from free-enterprise and capitalism. Create solutions that work, and create a perceived value that makes people want to buy those solutions.

Okay, yes I'm preaching ... just I always get a little nervous when governments get too involved in things. It's already been said 'loss of freedom', but even that could be tolerated if the exchange were for something positive ... I just can't imagine it will be.

Kind regards ...

Re: House Approves Bill to Address Threat of Global Warming

Fortunately this sort of nonsense is self-limiting. Ayn Rand predicted everything that is happening today in her Magnum Opus, "Atlas Shrugged."

For example, here is a real economic suicide note: http://web.archive.org/web/20010615002306/www.acorn.org/people%27s_platform.html No, not Ayn Rand- ACORN's "People's Platform."

Once the production of goods and services drops below what is necessary to sustain civilization, it's back to howling barbarism. Even a national shortage of transportation fuel would lead to starvation and food riots in the large cities in short order.

If the rest of us can protect what's important- water, food, breeding age females, and the knowledge of basic technology- we'll survive just fine. The unproductive 2/3 or so of society will either starve, or be slaughtered by their "brothers and sisters" for the cook pot.

Re: House Approves Bill to Address Threat of Global Warming

OH, MY, GOD. (and thanks for the ACORN link)

It's not enough that the House of 'Reps' would vote for something few of them have a CLUE about, as evidenced by the ignorant comments in support of this bill. HOW can they even have a serious discussion on a Bill that is based completely on addressing fraudulant Global Warming claims, and does nothing to address the real problems of government restrictions on developing our own hydrocarbon and nuclear power industries?

If you ever wanted to know what an insane, "ANTI-Constitution" would look like, how the parasite-class of liberal feel-good-without-earning-it busy-bodies would write a plan to destroy America, here it is. The ACORN fascist manifesto.

And to think, ACORN is the Voter-Fraud group that claims credit for getting Democrats into the majority, and specifically Barack Obama into the White House - though he repeatedly lied about his ties to them!

Their massive 'community organizing' was for one of their own, of course; former trainer Obama, who helped them create the Sub-Prime Mortgage Crisis, and helped develop the application of Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" (google it) to the liberal political process in Chicago.
So Obama is, like, the anti-Yoda - a mentor to those not 'fortunate' enough to have had direct communist mentors of their own like Barry did.

And ACORN is the group that has been awarded YOUR tax money, even in new funding to expand their reach. This is the group that signed up thousands upon thousands of fraudulant 'voters' during the last several elections.

This is the organization that will be helping to document the next Census, door to door, now taken over by Chicago slimeball Rahm Emanuel.

NOTE: It is the Census, never before controlled by a political entity but always previously by the Commerce dept, which controls the next round of "gerrymandering," which determines the 'zones' for voters to be grouped for picking a House representative, which is now for the first time to be computer-modelled and changed by ethnic group and political affiliation.

This determines statistically which political party WILL win the most seats in the House of Representatives, which has recently passed the most devastating attacks against the fundamental freedoms formerly allowing the success that built America, and which holds the purse-strings of the massive and growing Federal government medusa.

And now we get a massive and EXPENSIVE Carbon Cap-and-Tax on top of everything else?
As-if CO2 were some kind of toxin, and as-if mankind was capable of anything within a couple of orders of magnitude that would change the global climate. Really.

This is no longer a slippery-slope, this is a slime-ridden mosh pit of collectivism. I just hope we have enough sane people left that still care enough to vote...but where are they going to get the facts from which to form a valid opinion?
