Hot Forming

08/16/2009 11:01 PM

Dear All Members,

I want to design C/S + S/Sclad Vessel (SA 516 Gr. 70N + SS 316L). when calculated, 2:1 ellipse head have >5% of fiber elongation. As per ASME UCS-79, this head required stress relief but according to our client spec, stress relief should be replace with Normalising. In this regard, i think want to perform head by using hot forming. After check with supplier, they said temperature for hot forming not reach normalising temperature.

So, i need to do normalising treatment again to reduce fiber elongation? Matl can be with this temperature>

Could anyone advice us regarding this matter.

Thank you.

Normalizing is appropriate for CS but for SS part should be solution annealing. In similar situation (Clad vessel for high pressure service) stress releiving at a temperature lower than critical temperature with increased soaking time had been done.
