Ooowwww that looks interesting....

the two metal strips appear to have the holes lined up to each other.... Could it possibly be so that pegs could be put in the holes on either side? maybe used as stops or for stringing something between pegs???

Hmmmm must think about it some more....

I think it is a tool for leveling / spreading new topsoil on lawn.

Looks like a piece of a house to me: the part with holes (metal? or wood?) like an old form of "gang nails" as are used in framing trusses.

If not for the gang-naily thing, it could also be a piece of scaffold, of the sort that's nailed on the house to paint (just had the house painted, so it looks familiar ).

A old mail box post?

Maybe a base for a bird feeder for very heavy birds?

A side upright post for a jump; (possibly for horses) so that
the height of the horizontal pole can be fractionally raised
(or lowered) by moving the pole support bracket up or
down a hole in these side post holes? Maybe..

An agricultural device requiring minor adjustments?

Hi,

this was used to jack big logs onto trailers.

In the time until 1950 most of the tree-cutting was done by handsaws and handwork to bring the logs onto trailers.

1m diameter will have 700Kg per meter, so some help is needed.

Into the holes of the steel reinforcement 2 bolts are matching, if both sides used 2x2 bolts.

A lever (2m long) is resting at its end on one of these bolts, pulled up or down depending into which of the 2 rows the bolt is inserted, there raising by an attached chain the log. If the next higher hole is free of the lever then the second bolt is inserted into this hole and the lever moved back. Thus the load is climbing in increments.

Looks like a makeshift screed for concrete. The metal straps are used for reinforcement.

ok. This is what I tried to add to the pics.

It was part of my grandfather's equipment , being a plumber, gasfitter, painter ,decorator, cabinet maker and wind pump installer.

In a copy of Country Life a few decades back there was a picture of the identical object that was kept in the Littlehampton Museum and they asked the same question without response.

In mm the dimensions are 250 wide, 1650 long, 30 deep. The legs are 590 x 70 with a 780 brace and they are not joined together, so it looks as though it sat on a wall, possibly, when in use.

There are 35 holes in each of the reinforcing bars which are 80 x 800.

Cabinetmaker - It is a 90deg marker for keeping the cabinets square.

Wind mill erector - for adjusting the height of the rods / plunger to prevent the plunger from hitting the top or the bottom of the cylinder.

Notice the board is broken slightly past the end of the top metal.Perhaps it had a crack in it, and the metal strips were added as reinforcement across the crack, saving the cost of another board.

Yes the board has broken but only through neglect and weathering. The iron strips are integral to the whole tool.

Hi,

I tried to make a quick sketch from what I saw in a very old movie (from around 1930) that reported landlife.

The unknown piece discussed in this thread is different as two double rows of holes exist, maybe it was used with two levers.

How about a wall jack to put a scaffold on? We used to make them to work along the soffits and fascia boards before finding manufactured metal ones someone did not want any longer. Probably need more than one.
