Multimedia PC

10/21/2009 1:46 PM

Hi. I was thinking of converting my old PC - 1.7GHz Celeron socket 478, 1.25gb RAM to a multimedia pc, to play movies on my TV. The only problem is that it doesn't have a PCI-E slot for a graphics card - Just a PCI. I am stuck whether to buy a new mobo for about £30, with a PCI-E card, and then buy a pcie card or to stick with the same Mobo and buy a PCI card which are more expensive than the PCIE. If I stick with the same motherboard, it has integrated graphics, and only has a VGA out slot. Would a converter such as http://www.cheap-battery.com/bzc032.html?currency=GBP work? Motherboard make: MSI MS-6724

If you just want to play films / TV on your TV then a simple TV card like mine, bought off eBay for £12, is only standard plug and play card (not express) and easily copes with what you would want.... except meybe high definition...

Its a TV card that can accept rf input or composite video / audio input.

It has all the functions of a standard TV set, you have remote control (ir) it can autotune etc... and the software allows you to use the hard drive as a temporary store so that you can rewind a live broadcast and view the last 5 mins etc... while it still records the programme.

It has output video to a standard TV using a SCART plug etc...

In fact its so good I often watch TV on the computer rather than my TV....

My graphics card is a standard old AGP card - nothing special.
