Break flow to atmosphere

In high pressure high temperature system, flow restricting venturi (convergent divergent nozzle) are installed on the "main pipelines" to minimize the break flow to atmosphere from the sub pipelines connecting pipelines, connecting to the "main pipelines".

The design direction of flow through the venturi is inlet through a small convergent section followed by a long divergent section.

The question is, whether the "the break flow to atmosphere" will vary if the venturi is erected in reverse direction?

The words "reverse direction" are causing me to wonder if I understand you correctly or not - do you mean reverse as in - place the venturi in the secondary long section that follows the small convergent section? I don't think you mean reverse flow direction, it doesn't work at all that way.

Please excuse me I don't quite understand your question - but I might be able to help as I have experience with venturis in pipelines containing incineration exhaust, where venturi causes heavy particulates to accumulate at the bottom of conical catch basins, so I understand the principles.
