siemens Distance relay

Hello, I am amitabh. I m new to this forum. Can anybody tell me about Siemens 7SA611 distance relay. We have commissioned these relays for 220 KV feeders. The relay can be connected onine through a PC. It is said that original dex file is required to change the settings of the relay, but after connecting the relay from plug and play mode I was able to change the relay setting ( default password 000000 ) . Can anybody tell the difference between the dex file and the file which is created by using the plug and play mode (i.e variant file)
